In this episode we’re reading a 1910 article about her and her sister's legal (and physical!) battle that ended up at the Supreme Court.

In this episode we’re talking about 1930s song lyrics that have little to do with “cheek to cheek” and a lot to do with putting cheeks to other use. Warning! Strong language and heavy innuendos throughout this one. Very much NSFW.

Thank you for acknowledging that the show is a fantasy. The historical facts matter much more in a drama that purports to tell a tale from history, which this show does not. That said, I appreciate your take on the costume design. My ex-wife was a costume designer who cared very much about historical accuracy, so I have been a close observer of the compromises required by money (a huge constraint), availability of materials and practical requirements of the show. My ex costumed live theater, where quick changes are often required. When a costume has to be shed in a couple of minutes, historical accuracy must give way, although clever adaptations can still give the appearance of a period garment. We love Bridgerton. Thanks for your interesting presentation.

disagree with the idea that higher breast exposure was widely practiced ergo breasts were societally less sexualized. maybe sexualization in this way was just the norm and actively participated in? maybe it’s because a woman’s worth was primarily in her trade value? you need to advertise your goods to gain interest and close a sale. why bother with the sexy silhouette if sex had nothing to do with it.

As an 80's teen in the goth/punk scene I remember a lot of making do with whatever we could find because it was a style that most stores didn't cater to. Cheap kung-fu maryjanes, docs, reconstructing thrifted clothes, eyeliner for lipstick etc... Your diy necklace was perfect. I don't remember much about the hair, but I remember a lot of gel and a crap-ton of hairspray, and the hair would have been cut for your style, so there would not have been so much extra bulk like you have. You looked great!

Okay, so I watched this while ironing and didn't actually score myself, but as an ND person, this actually gave me some sense of the areas of Learning How To People where I'm doing pretty well and where I need further study 😅 (FD: I'm hella queer so I just went, "Eh, why not both?" and I'm also married, but this makes a surprisingly decent tool-with a few exceptions for modern updates in understanding of family dynamics-for thinking about social stuff.)

In my opinion I like how I look (besides some pimples) but I'm not sure if that's just my opinion or if I'm conventionally attractive. I try not to care about what others think of my face but then I start to worry that I'm being vain and ignorant and everyone else sees the truth. It's like I need other people's opinion on my looks to be the same as mine so I can believe I'm not self obsessed and actually just seeing what's there. but why does it feel wrong to like how I look? It feels more acceptable to despise any qualities I have than to truly love them. if liking pasta when some people don't isn't vain then why do I feel this pressure to not like myself "too much" just incase I'm actually not that great? why should someone else's opinion on my face matter more than mine when I'm the one living in it?

Lata 90.

The manliness of the men in past and the lack of it in men today is apparent despite the fact they wore distinctive colours and tights. Because they would then done heavy armour and go to war, travel bandit infested roads and travel across the continent on horses to pillage and etc. They might have even feminine mannerisms, but compared to men today they weren't feminine. What you see today is clear push for feminine, castrated men. Just look at testosterone levels, dropping steadily for last 50 years.

My grandma in the 50’s was engaged to a man but was waiting until marriage to sleep with him for the first time. During their engagement he got his needs met from another woman. Eventually he broke off the engagement with my grandma to marry this other woman. The man ended up dying and both my grandma and this other woman ended up in the same retirement home. My grandma who is an angel and always super positive about everything and everyone, was NOT happy about this. She did NOT like this woman AT ALL!
